The majority of the bonefishing takes place within a short distance from Stella Maris Marina in Adderley’s, Glenton’s, and Joe Sound’s Bay. The boat ride to these areas will range from 5 to 10 minutes with the majority of the fishing done from the boat. There are wading opportunities in the Stella Maris area, but the guides take advantage of the extensive flats system by covering more water by poling. If you enjoy wading, there are two large lagoon areas located further north called Cape Santa Maria and Columbus Harbour. Not only do these areas provide great wading situations, they are also drop-dead gorgeous, with beautiful white sand and sapphire water surrounded by rocky cliffs.
Schools of bonefish in the Stella Maris area can number anywhere from 40 to over 400, with the sizes of fish ranging anywhere from two to over 15 pounds. These schools can be found on the flats year-round due to the southerly location of Long Island and the warm consistent North Equatorial current. Permit can also be targeted during certain times of the year. Whether you are a first-time saltwater fisherman or an experienced angler, the guides at Stella Maris will provide you with a day on the water that you will not forget. All of the guides are Long Island natives who are endorsed by the Bahamian government as Bahamas Flyfishing Guides. By being committed to ensuring total client satisfaction, the guides are very patient, instructive, knowledgeable, and can adapt to the experience level of any angler.
There are many options to choose from at Stella Maris - be it a place to rest your head between fishing days or deluxe, full-service accommodations designed to satisfy family and group needs. All guests have access to all of the resort’s amenities including three pools, seven Atlantic beach coves, daily boat cruises, snorkeling tours, guided land and beach tours, tennis courts, recreation room, weight room, private beach access, and nightlife.
These rooms are located near the main lodge dining room and bar at the top of the hill with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the east coast of Long Island. Each room is equipped with individual A/C, ceiling fan, small refrigerator, hair dryer, coffee maker, patio or balcony with ocean view. Units contain either two double beds or a king size bed.
The cottages are all 1 bedroom units that are great for couples or a single angler looking for extra space. The cottages surround a pool and are located half way up the hill between the ocean and main lodge. Each has a full bathroom and a small living room equipped with A/C.
Ocean Villas can satisfy two couples or small groups. The units are located on the Atlantic Coast with an upper living room and open kitchen. There are two spacious balconies that face the Atlantic ocean and the resort. All villas contain two bedrooms on the lower level with A/C, two bathrooms, and patio. There is also beach access and a nature pool. Full time use of a rental car can be included with the ocean villa package.
Bungalows are mainly used for groups of 4 to 8 people and are great way to have your own private house on the beach. All units are very attractive with a rustic interior. Some of the 3 and 4 bedroom units have separated outside entrances to the bedrooms for added privacy along with the private pool option. As you go downstairs from the bedrooms the rear of the house opens out to very large private saltwater pool which directly overlooks the Atlantic Ocean above the beach. All of the bungalows are superb facilities with large terraces, a gazebo, pool, and bar and grill. Breathtaking Atlantic settings!
